Feeling the Draft

The annual crapshoot of overly hyped hoopsters known as the NBA Draft descended onto the Buzz this week. Searches on the Draft jumped 189% and into our top three sports searches. With the teams in stealth mode as the Draft blew in, searches on "nba draft rumors" and "nba rumors" also crept up in the Buzz.

Teams dispensed with the whispers and showed their hands last night when it was time to pick. The moves made by the Milwaukee Bucks (+378%), Boston Celtics (+253%), and Chicago Bulls (+240%) led to large increases in Search. The Bucks boost wasn't due to a grand Draft strategy—but because the team unveiled a new logo and color scheme.

As for this year's crop of hoops gods, the man with the 'stache shall lead them. Searches on new Bobcat and facial-hair guru Adam Morrison doubled the rest of his fellow draftees, including number one pick Andrea Bargnani. Other new pros making their presence felt in Buzz included Tyrus Thomas (+195%), Rudy Gay (+188%), and J.J. Redick (+75%).

Disheartened New York Knicks fans barely cared enough to search, with queries on the woebegone franchise up only 59%. Either that or they're already looking ahead to 2007 and probable number one pick Greg Oden, who soared 212% as he prepares to star for Ohio State this fall. Wait 'til next year, indeed...

this is really dumb

This IS really dumb, because Knicks fans can't even look forward to Greg Oden--if they happen to get the #1 pick again, it's the Bulls' due to a little trade they did for Eddy Curry a few years back.
