Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez (+892%) made headlines and inspired searches after calling George W. Bush "the devil" during a recent speech at the United Nations. This isn't the first time the spirited Chavez has belittled Bush, but it may mark the first time a room of diplomats applauded the outburst.
While "that whole devil thing" was the main reason for the searches, several other Chavez remarks also inspired reactionary buzz. Interest in "Noam Chomsky" skyrocketed after Chavez suggested Americans read the author instead of watching "Superman movies." Presumably Steven Seagal is still OK. Fidel Castro (+29%) also surged after numerous newscasters compared Chavez's anti-U.S. stance to that of the Cuban dictator.
So, will Chavez and Bush eventually make up, or will the name calling and unsolicited literary advice continue? Perhaps the two leaders could form a book club. Hey, it worked for Oprah. First Chomsky's "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance," then a spirited discussion of "My Pet Goat." Both sound like page-turners to us.
