Not long ago, "The O.C." was one of TV's hottest shows. With its beautiful cast, over-the-top storylines, and brilliant dialogue ("Welcome to the O.C., bitch!"), it looked as if Fox's show would last forever. Alas, "forever" isn't as long as it used to be. In just a few weeks, "The O.C." will be washed out to sea, canceled due to low ratings.
What triggered the downfall? Some say Mischa Barton's departure was the beginning of the end. Others would argue that Ryan's "fight club" storyline was simply way too stupid (even for Fox). Whatever the reason, viewers stopped caring and the show's searches dropped dramatically.
But don't cry for the beautiful people—the cast will continue to find work in Tinseltown. Rachel Bilson's buzz already eclipses that of Ms. Barton and searches on Adam Brody remain disturbingly high. So, perhaps its good "The O.C." is being put out of its misery. It saves the actors the indignity of starring in a show nobody watches, and allows us more time to devote to our "90210" DVDs. Donna Martin graduates, bitch!
