Scammed Out of Our Slippers?

By Mike Krumboltz

Hey kids, Grumpy Grandpa here. Boy, am I in a foul mood today. Not only are my slippers missing, some scam artist sent me an email asking for my social security number. Of course, I didn't bite—you gotta get up pretty early in the morning to fool the ol' Grumpster.

I thought a nice mid-morning nap would calm me down, but no dice. First, teenagers took over my local Denny's, now I'm being beseiged by grifters! Thoroughly annoyed, I researched the top "scam" searches. Take a look at our top 20. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for my slippers—25 cent reward to whoever finds 'em first.

Well, unfortunately Sir, I do NOT know where your slippers are, BUT I DO know that these "SCAMS" are QUITE ANNOYING and also, somewhat EMBARRASSING to me. I have fallen pray to these "SCAM ARTISTS" also, and actually had FAKE MONEY ORDERS DELIVERED to my home, which I did NOT know were FAKE, but knew I DID NOT want to be a part of "WHATEVER" was transpiring! THANK GOODNESS I was old enough to know to TAKE THEM DIRECTLY(the money orders) to the POST OFFICE for THEM TO "CHECK-OUT" and gave them all the information I had and WE CALLED THE AUTHORITIES , so they could go over my computer. I was NEW to the INTERNET and I guess NAIVE to the "OUTSIDE" WORLD, but thank- you GOD, I DID HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO KEEP all of the information on the computer, instead of, DELETING THE EVIDENCE like I usually would have!(E-MAILS)There have been SEVERAL others that HAVE TRIED to get ME TO BITE, BUT NOW I KNOW and that's WHERE MY LOVELY "SPAM" BUTTON has become one of MY DEAREST FRIENDS. Thank-You SIR and BUZZ for listing the "other" SCAMS taking place, I WILL BE KEEPING MY SPAM BUTTON BUSY!!

I was contacted by World Voice News today for an Administrative Assistant job. They ask me a few questions such as my address, nothing too personal. Then I was given their website address to fill out the application. Well since I have submitted over 300 resumes in the last 2 months I could not say if this was one of them or not. I did go on the website and all I found was an error report for the site. I then ran the company name through my search engine and all kinds of redflags came up for the company. I am glad I got a heads up on this one. I am struggling enough financially without some conartist taking from me.
