Ask 100 tormented teens what "emo" means and you'll probably get 100 different answers. Difficulties in pinning down the term lead to searches on "what is emo," "how to be emo," and "what is the definition of emo." The Urban Dictionary lists over 100 definitions for the word and Wikipedia provides more theories but few definitive answers. Although it's hard to get a fix on what emo is, the confusion surrounding the term hasn't hurt sales of black nail polish, hair mousse, or Dashboard Confessional albums.

After searches on "emo hairstyles" doubled over the weekend, we delved into the world of melodramatic despair. Searches on "emo" are flat over the last week, but it's a trend on the rise. We graphed emo searches over the last two and a half years and found the style still hasn't faded to black...

In fact, "emo" pouts around in our top 1,000 searches and is responsible for many devastatingly emotional related queries. We put down our mascara long enough to count down the top 20...

just one question why does the term, "emo" have to be so popular that you would actually write over it? Its pathetic emo used to be emotional, emotive... something other than what it turned into. Now's its just a bogus term that describes pathetic teens whow think that cutting themselves and wearing black eyeliner is the so called, "cool thing" to do now. Personally I don't get it.. Emo is not a person or an object.. truthfully "emo" is nothing..

"Emo" is something! It's a way of life for some! For others it's just a hairstyle, fashion trend, favorite kind of music 2 listen 2! Emo isn't bout' slitting wrists and being depressed! It's just something you like! People dress emo and they aren't goths or out slitting wrists and signing-up 4 dr.phil! Emo is like the "in" thing right now and a lot of people like it! It's not something to make a big deal out of! Kids and teen can dress in the styles they want without being goths and depressed! omg! all I was reading on that blog thing was how emo teen are depressed, sad, angry at something, turning goth, and slitting thier wrists! NO! I'm not saying some emo people are goths and some may of even slit thier wrists, but that doesen't mean it's because thier emo! black nail polish is black nail polish! a lot of people wear it and they're not emo! It just makes me so mad that all u people r making this "emo" thing a big deal like it's some kind of sickness that's gonna kill all of our teens! It's not! trust me! Just a style or personal preference! Like bellbottoms, country music, and different hair and fashion styles! If u still don't believe me then please anyone leave another comment so i can better explain! Emo is not deadly! listen! Learn! Chill!

Emo teens are not pathetic! maybe your pathetic if u don't understand! Black eyeliner is just for some emo people that like it! Like 80's and 90's rockstars had huge hair and tight leopard skin clothes! And how it seemed to be cool to "stick it to the man" in the 70's! just a style, a dress, a music preference, or a way to express yourself! get over it! not a big deal! I my self like emo dress and other emo stuff but it's not what all u people r making it out to be! emo music is mainly rock, punk, or metal! Maybe your son, daughter, cousin, sister, brother, or best friend may even be emo and u wouldn't know it cuz u don't understand it, just what you've seen and heard!
