Buzz Multiplex: You Know Who

Weekend's Most Searched New Movies

On the fourteenth of March, in the Buzz Multiplex seats, in the days before spring, raking receipts oh so sweet, all were searching, enjoying the Seussian joys, with fist fights and cannibals bringing the boys.

1. "Horton Hears a Who!" (G). So Carrey does "Idol," in elephant gear. He looked a... distraction. "That's funny," think we, "film's not live-action." Still, nevertheless! "Horton" draws all ages: kids, pre-teens, and the ones in the middle stages. More voice actors—Seth Rogen and Steve Carell, and Carol Burnett—pull in searches as well. Expect the big pay-off, as its coffers shall swell.

2. "Doomsday" (R). A little apocalypse always puts everyday life into perspective, which might explain the draw for this end-of-world scenario, savaging its way into the top 3,000 searches. Leading the post-apocalyptic lookups are (mostly) boys from Kansas, Texas, and New York (and NY oughtta know this week about civilizaton in meltdown). Amidst pandemics and a cannibalistic punk-rock rises actress Rhona Mitra, who doesn't need a machete to slash her way up as most searched actress in premieres this week.

3. "Never Back Down" (PG-13). It's been a long time since a scrawny "Karate Kid" perched one-legged on a rock and waxed cars to learn how to stand up to bullies. In this UFC world, up-and-coming Sean Faris (who's also up in searches 59%) takes his turn as the high school kid who turns to Djimon Hounsou—the Beninous response to Mr. Miyagi—for fancy fist and footwork. The PG-13 rating is spot on, as both girls and boys 13-30 seek out this cinematic self-defense, in a solid third-place.
