Friday was another busy day in the Buzz. Here are a few of the bigger stories you may have missed...
Earthquakes aren't just for Californians anymore.
For years, mid-westerners could look at Californians and say, "You may have great weather, but at least we don't have big earthquakes." Not anymore. A 5.2 rumbler hit southern Illinois on Friday morning and set off huge aftershocks in the Buzz. Lookups on "illinois earthquake" and "new madrid fault" crashed into our top movers in Search, while several articles, including this one from Yahoo! News, drew a mountain of clicks.
The Baseball Game that Wouldn't End.
Baseball games usually last nine innings and then everyone wakes up and goes home. Not this time. Last night a contest between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies went a butt-numbing 22 innings before the Rockies eked out a victory. An article from Yahoo! Sports drew big buzz and lookups on Troy Tulowitzki, who hit the game winning double, made an unexpected surge.
Rock and Roller Gone Too Soon.
E Street keyboardist Danny Federici has died at the age of 58. An article from USA Today became one of our most popular stories of the past 24 hours due to fans of Springsteen's bandmate seeking more information. Related terms like "danny federici photos," "danny federici songs," and "danny federici bio" posted significant lookups as well.
Also buzzing this fine Friday afternoon...
• People are still talking about the Titanic. The unsinkable ship that sunk has inspired yet another book that attempts to explain how the tragedy happened. Spoiler alert -- it was the rivets.
• And speaking of sinking ships, Citigroup announced a $5.1 billion loss and reported that it will layoff 9,000 employees. An article from the New York Times drew plenty of concerned interest.
