Photo Scandals, Miley Cyrus-Style
Is this Mileygate? All day, articles, searches, and outrage related to "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus have bombarded the Buzz. What about? Not a wardrobe malfunction or a cheap paparazzi shot, but a studio portrait of the Disney mega-star by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.
To quickly recap the rumpus: The 15-year-old TV phenom posed for the A-list shutterbug for a feature in June's Vanity Fair. Now, the images are out—and Miley doesn't like what she sees. According to the actress, the pictures were supposed to be "artistic." Instead, she just feels "embarassed" by them. In particular, the teen performer objects to one photo in which she's shown looking over her shoulder, provocatively revealing a bare back.
So far, most of the articles to hit the Buzz have tracked Cyrus' response to the image and Leibovitz's apologetic reply. Already, though, some blogs have dug deeper. Huffington Post not only picked up an engaging item about Vanity Fair's "history" of "embarrassing" stars, but it also turned to celebrity-on-celebrity coverage, publishing Jamie Lee Curtis's take on the back brouhaha.
New York Magazine's site took it one step further, compiling blog-on-blog coverage of the event. (Is this really an "event"?) Meanwhile, People.com resorted to polling the public: "Will the photos help or hurt Miley?" the site queried. In Search, demand for "miley cyrus photo scandal" skyrocketed. Don't take it too hard, Miley. Behind every successful celebrity lurks at least one "photo scandal" search spike.

To pose for pics she herself said were " artistic ", only to now turn around and slam the pictures ( most likely because they got bad press ) is as two-faced as they come, but I guess that's showbiz.

Milely doesn't look like her to me and looks like she is in her twenties. Then it may have something to do with the fact that the shows we watch are reruns and are like 4 years old or more. I don't even know when her show started. I thought the one with her Dad was posed very well. I do not believe he needs to breath anew to his life in the music industry. He has done extremely well way before his daughter was even a twickle in his eye. She is becoming a young lady and I feel is just creating this image for her life beyond Hannah Montana in this business you have to get it done while the fire is hot and her Dad knows this. He has always had her best interest to heart and I feel he has done a great job. She is a great girl well mannered has a relationship with The Lord and that to was her Dad Great Job Billy you stand proud. The public fired up by the press will alway find fault in good people even if they have to throw the dirt on them Vanity Fair has been around longer then most of us and they have a history of good taste and so does Miley and Billy Ray Take care and don't hang your heads you've done nothing wrong. Sincerely Mike

This is the same old same old. America is so hypocritical. Childrens' programming is sickeningly sweet. As the stars grow, they must be sexualized if they want to continue to be successful in the adult entertainment world-- and their fans who used them for role models make every transition with them. They have to prove that their onscreen, goody-goody personnae are not real by partying and abusing various substances. They have to take their clothes off. They have to develop street cred. And as they age, and the children who watched them age as well, and the trainwreck developes, an entirely new generation of child stars and child fans begins the process all over again. It's all about the love of money-- some say it's the root of all evil. I tend to concur.
Disney is the biggest hypocrite of all. I'm sure Walt would be spinning in his grave.
