The Buzz Weekend Recap

By Mike Krumboltz

Folks had three things on their minds on this weekend—sex, violence, and gas prices. In other words, it was a lot like every other weekend. Here's a look at the stories that got folks talking... and buzzing.

Stop the press, who is that?
Folks may be growing tired of Hillary Clinton, but they can't get enough of her comely aide. Searches on the fetching Huma Abedin soared this weekend following news that Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York is dating the former "Vogue" model. Expect her online fanclub to continue to grow should her fella run for mayor of the Big Apple in 2009.

That's Mister Slice to you, buddy.
For most folks, the weekend was a time to relax. For Kimbo Slice, it was a time to get into one helluva fight. The hugely popular mixed martial artist triumphed in his network television debut, crushing James "The Colossus" Thompson and setting off a firestorm of searches on "mixed martial arts," "ultimate fighting," and "kimbo slice biography." Lookups on Kimbo posted triple-digit gains while articles like this one from the Bleacher Report drew knockout hits.

The reason for high gas prices is...
We're guessing that the last thing you want to read about is how gas prices are going through the roof. Still, this story from the PhillyBurbs puts a new angle on the topic by taking a look at several possibilities for the staggering rise. Is it speculation? Is it manipulation? Is the world running out of oil? Whatever the reason, we suggest investing in a bus pass and watching out for bandits.

Also buzzing this weekend...
• Who says there's no such thing as good news? The New York Post reported that Britney Spears will NOT be endorsing a line of Scandinavian furniture, sparing the world from further exposure to the troubled starlet. Huzzah!
• For over a year, a Japanese homeless woman was secretly living in a man's closet. Her recent discovery has inspired a lot of buzz including this stunning story from Salon.com.
• Sex and the City: Four words that send most men running for the nearest Steven Seagal movie. But that didn't stop the long-anticipated chick flick from taking the top spot at the box office. The movie also inspired countless articles on the show's rabid fanbase, many of which had predictably suggestive headlines.
