Between bad jokes and brawls, it was a testy weekend.
What better way to put a finger on the brutish buzz than to read about the barroom brawl of actors Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright? Bad to the bone all the way until last call, the two actors—currently filming with Oliver Stone in Shreveport, La.—duked it out with authorities outside a local tavern. Brolin has the honor of portraying George W. Bush in Stone's biopic "W." and now the dubious distinction of having racked up a few hundred dollars in posted bail and a fistful of interest in the Buzz.
We're not sure if the real President Bush was looking for a fight with his closing joke at the G-8 conference. But fellow Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't think bragging about being the world's biggest polluter was even worth a chuckle. Could the governor's public response to Bush's bad joke have anything to do with the rumors of an energy post in Barack Obama's administration?
Sen. Obama himself failed to see any humor in the off-color gags of comedian Bernie Mac. The Chicago-born funnyman made a few $2,300-per-seat Obama supporters see red with his blue jokes at a fundraising event in the Windy City. Mac may need to forget about any offer for a cabinet position.
And though it happened days ago, Sen. John McCain's quip about sending deadly cigarettes to Iran continued to spark its fair share of fallout in the Buzz: Iran's not laughing.
With all of this strife, we have to ask, Why can't everyone just get along? If two beautiful women from Serbia and Kosovo can bury the hatchet—even in an arena as aggressive as the Miss Universe Pageant—we should expect no less from the rest of the world. If we can't keep the peace for ourselves, can't we at least do it for (Brad and Angelina's) children?
