Reunited and it feels... lukewarm to painful. An aging FBI partnership take another shot at a big screen redux, while two grown comedians go at each other's throats. The Dark Knight's not even flinching.
1. " X-Files 2: I Want to Believe" (PG-13). The '90s sci-fi series has cranked up the nostalgia mill, with reviewers reminiscing about their favorite episodes. Nostalgia could fill a decent number of seats despite the critical "meh": FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) leapfrogged "Step Brothers" in recent days, and the late surge of believers 21-54 makes this the adult conspiracy movie of the week. The real draw, pulling double the film's queries, is the still "hot" Anderson, who draws rapturous testimony from men and women alike.
2. "Step Brothers" (R). Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly try to make movie magic as two men joined together through their respective parent's marriage. The restricted rating may cut out 20% of the potential audience, unless teens pining to see sibling ruthlessness get an indulgent guardian to take them.
