Oscar Leftovers
Last wandering thoughts...and Search spikes...triggered by the 81st annual Academy Awards:
Presentation, People, Presentation
- Character actors opted for the old "fashion-inverse-to-talent" rule as Tilda Swinton (+1,242% up in searches) went mousy beige and Philip Seymour Hoffman (+326%) matched his tuxedo with a knit cap.
- Jennifer Aniston ended up being the evening's most popular presenter, according to searches. Nothing like having the camera pan twice to reaction shots from your ex and his current lady in the front row during your segment.
- Robert Pattinson brought tween cred to the fusty old Academy. His English accent makes the "Twilight" vamp that much more deliciously dangerous.
- Bringing up the delicate "age" question (in order of Web queries): How old is Jerry Lewis (82), Sophia Loren (74), Miley Cyrus (16) and Goldie Hawn (63)?
- No truth to the rumor that Jessica Biel's dress doubled as a towel dispenser backstage. Someone tell her beau Justin Timberlake, this is a wardrobe malfunction.
The Old Song-and-Dance
- How well did Hugh Jackman do? Enough to make the top 5 most-searched 2009 onstage hosts, and stimulate online investigations into his bio, films, wife, and how he looks in the buff.
- Natalie Portman likens co-presenter Ben Stiller's homage to Joaquin Phoenix as someone who works in a "Hasidic meth lab." Good idea... forget Phoenix's rap: Phoenix and Stiller either as the Hasidic Blues Brothers or a ZZ Top tribute band.
- Beyonce may have lip-synched, but she's too popular for Searches to care. Besides, they're busy looking up the lyrics to winning Oscar song, "Jai Ho."
- Angelina Jolie pulled in the most searches of any nominee, but disappointed a few when she didn't adopt the cast of "Slumdog Millionaire."
- Kate Winslet snapped her losing streak and snags most popular Oscar winner on the Web. Will Jackman watch her movie now?
- Most popular spouse? Husband: Matthew Broderick (to Sarah Jessica Parker). Wife Robin Wright Penn (to Sean Penn).
- Gone too soon: The memory of Heath Ledger evokes Web nostalgia for his old movies, former co-stars like Shannyn Sossamon and even the late James Dean.
- "Man on Wire" high-wire artist Philippe Petit balanced the Oscar for best documentary on his chin. Let's bring the Oscars to Vegas, baby!

Let's Get (Trial) Married!
Three months may not seem like a long time, but then again, things always move quicker in Hollywood. This may help explain the recent announcement that Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer are planning a "trial marriage."
Translation: no wedding, but plenty of time to decide who gets control of the remote and takes out the trash. After three months together, Mayer and Aniston are playing house. And hey, in another three months, if things go well, then they can talk wedding. If not, they can always get trial divorced.
Speaking of not-so-happy endings, after their three-month romance, Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong decided to end it. According to Us Magazine, "There was no drama or ugliness - they just decided to end things...There is no hatred, just sadness."
No ugliness or drama? No, that only happens in six-month relationships.
Jamie Lynn Spears clearly believes in trials. First beau, then baby, and now the former "Zoey 101" star is reportedly planning a wedding by year's end to her finace and baby daddy, Casey Aldridge, according to OK Magazine.
The magazine also reports that, despite pesky tabloid rumors that Sarah Jessica Parker's husband Matthew Broderick, cheated on her, the two are said to have an "unconventional but successful union." Maybe they should have had a trial first.

'Friends': The Film
Following in the high-heeled footsteps of "Sex and the City: The Movie" comes another film that's sure to make boyfriends around the world run for cover. Prepare thyself for "Friends: The Movie." Mwa ha ha!
That's right, kids. Rumor has it that there is renewed interest in bringing the six fabulously perky and quirky New Yorkers to the big screen. You can either thank or blame "Sex and the City" for this news. The success of that franchise's recent flick reportedly inspired the cast to bring their beloved sitcom back from the dead.
According to Current, Jennifer Aniston "is believed to have dragged her heels" on the project, but has since changed her mind. Filming should start within the next 18 months. Or will it? Another blog reports that Warner Bros. denied the "Friends" movie rumor, "and there's no confirmation from anyone around town that anything is even being considered."
So, is there hope for all the haters who thought they'd seen the last of Ross, Rachel, and that stupid monkey? Maybe, but remember: When it comes to rumors, they're often denied, but usually true. Sorry.

Pitt Fight
Jennifer Aniston can't catch a break. Sure, she's our favorite former "Friend." Sure, she earns Search sympathy as the woman scorned. And, sure, "The Break-Up" has been anticipated as yet another chance for her to bust out of TV popularity and into big-screen stardom.
So what happens a week before her premiere? Well, you may have heard about the birth of the most beautiful infant on earth, courtesy of ex-hubby Brad Pitt and Angelina "I'm Not the Other Woman" Jolie. Meanwhile, critics are converging like vultures over the box-office success of the "The Break-Up."
Truth be told, Jen has been in a Buzz dive for weeks. At the moment, Jennifer and Angelina are in a virtual dead heat in Search, but we at Buzz Central know Jen's doomed to slide. C'mon, how many gals next door can compete with a worldwide Goodwill ambassador?...

A Friend in Need
Searches on the former Friend rose rapidly following news that GQ (+1,153%) had named her its first ever "Woman of the Year." Apparently Jennifer exhibited dignity and grace while her impossibly good-looking ex (Brad Pitt) gallivanted on exotic beaches with sex personified (Angelina Jolie). Rise, Jen, rise -- like the mighty phoenix you are!
"He's Just Not That Into You" (+235%), one book that may very well rest on Jennifer's bedside table, took off in Search after Drew Barrymore (+125%) announced that her production company is turning the relationship-advice guide into a movie. Considering the number of guys who fled the country when Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants came out, we're expecting a mass male exodus by the time He's Just Not That Into You hits theaters.
