It's official. Not only is the economy in decline, but the recession is supposed to be long and painful. Does this mean we're just supposed to stare at our computers — and empty wallets —and mope? Nope! Recessionistas, rejoice. Because as the song goes, the best things in life are free. We've done some digging and found that, in the last month, penny-pinchers were searching for free stuff.
There are lots of freebies online, from the functional to the truly flabbergasting. Free apps for your iPhone? Check. Free test drive of Consumer Reports to sharpen your shopping skills? Check. Free flip-flops for drunks? Check. Wait, what? Don't worry, this tax-funded initiative is a U.K. phenom and it's all for the sake of health and balance for stumbling, barefooted, inebriated celebrants.
Below, some of the top searches that only a true frugalista would love. But back to the U.K. again. According to a survey, the best free activity recommended by respondents: the tried and true roll in the hay. And if you can't find your shoes afterward, there are always the free flip-flops.
