Buzz Multiplex: How's Montana These Days?
The Hannah Montana brand gets its second big screen boost this weekend with “Hannah Montana: The Movie.” The latest outing takes the Disney Channel character—and star Miley Cyrus—from the cable TV confines to the real world, following the path of Lizzie Maguire and the "High School Musical" batch.
The tale of high school student by day, pop star by night takes an introspective turn: Miley Stewart (the HM alter-ego) re-evaluates her success by visiting her Tennessee hometown...not coincidentally, where Cyrus herself also hailed.
Here's something for Montana/Stewart/Cyrus to consider: While all still reap in solid adoration from the prepubescents, these alter egos aren't enjoying the same online popularity they once did.
Like back in February 2008, when musical documentary “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” broke 3D weekend movie records. Search anticipation for "HM: The Movie" though is almost half that of the concert film—and ticket prices are a lot less for a non-3D flick.
Naturally, much has happened since HM's innocent debut in March 2006, which quickly captured lots of searches from the get-go) and later dominated the live concert scene and even Halloween costume lists.
Then, things got a little messy: Just when searches for "miley cyrus" surpassed those for "hannah montana," Cyrus got caught up in the Vanity Fair photo scandal, hooked up with an older man (who has since brought her "closer to the Lord"), and proved all-around a little more precocious then some fans, and moms of fans, really liked.
Cyrus may now be the bigger online draw than Hannah Montana. Here's how her movie compares to this weekend's premieres in online popularity:

Buzz Multiplex: JoBros Blow Through
No one's objecting to this jet expense.
As if seeing "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" in pulsing, in-your-face detail wasn't enough, the Disney-backed threesome is jetting coast-to-coast as part of their "Surprise Theater Invasion Tour." Since an invasion is by nature secretive, the surprise lies in which theater the JoBros will drop by in the flesh.
The JoBros' first stop was, unsurprisingly, Hollywood, but besotted fans—and there are shrieking gaggles of them—with V CAST-enabled phones can track the invasion. If Blackberrys go missing this weekend, you know why.
The question isn't whether JoBros beats down its sole competitor and gameboy fantasy, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li." (Don't worry, fans of the first female "Streetfighter" trailblazer: The title's pulling in decent searches, which means decent attendance, high torrent activity, and a DVD release party down the line.) THe question is whether they can beat Miley Cyrus' movie's $31.1 million opening weekend take. Yah, not fair: Cyrus booked 683 theaters, while the boys get almost double at 1,271 locales.
The flight plan has already been set, but the JoBros might want to hit joints in Connecticut, which leads California, Pennyslvania, New York, and Illinois in "3D" search madness. And Street Fighter's Chun-Li travel tour's first stop? Arizona is the number one state checking out her movie. The Copper State loves those female trailblazers.

From Our "Sad but True" File...
Stephen Baldwin isn't on Hollywood's A-list. In fact, we'd say he's one step away from being a seat-filler on Oscar night. Still, his last name still means something in Tinseltown, so when word hit that the born-again Baldwin got a Miley Cyrus tattoo, folks had to know more.
As it turns out, the rumors are true. Sort of. Baldwin, on a dare from Ms. Cyrus, had "HM" (for "Hannah Montana") tattooed on his arm. Apparently, nobody ever gave Steve the "if your friends dared you to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you" talk.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Baldwin is now trying to guilt-trip Ms. Cyrus into letting him act on her show as payback for decorating his skin with her alter-ego's initials. Sources indicate that Miley will indeed let Mr. Baldwin on the set. Maybe as a stand-in...

Miley's Mean Video
The Miley saga continues. Yesterday, we wrote about the tremendous interest in the "Hannah Montana" star's romantic life. Today, a sarcastic video from the Disney Darling has resurfaced on the Web. In the clip, Miley makes fun of an actress who's reportedly dating her ex. And the buzz is popping. Allow us to recap:
Miley Cyrus, pretty much the biggest teen star out there, once dated Nick Jonas, one-third of the pop phenom The Jonas Brothers. At some point, Miley and Nick broke up. Now, news stories have linked the boy wonder with Selena Gomez, a Disney up-and-comer who has been dubbed "the next Miley Cyrus." For Miley fans, it's almost too much to bear.
Back in March, Selena and her pal Demi Lovato made a goofy video and posted it on YouTube. Miley and her buddy Mandy Jiroux retorted with their own short making fun of Selena's clip. Months later, the video has resurfaced to do what videos do best: wreck PR havoc.
"Miley Cyrus Mocks the Competition," declares E! Online. "Miley Cyrus Mocks Selena Gomez on YouTube," Us Magazine proclaims, and follows with the question sure to get Disney in a dither: "Miley Cyrus—a mean girl?" In Search, the mockathon drove queries upwards for "miley and mindy show," "demi lovato and selena gomez," and "miley cyrus video."
Miley has a new album out and her appearance on "The Today Show" Friday morning broke concert records for the NBC series. For fans, though, the star's dating woes are priority number one. Yesterday's fastest moving Miley search was "miley cyrus and nick jonas." Queries like "miley and nick" (no last names necessary), "miley cyrus boyfriend nick jonas," and "miley cyrus boyfriend" continue to post big gains.
Meanwhile, thanks to the video clip or not, demand for "nick jonas and selena gomez dating" and "nick jonas and selena gomez" are running strong.
How will this twisted tale of teen angst play out? Only time—and maybe a few more deliciously acerbic video clips—will tell.

Attention, Boys: Miley's Lookin'
Miley Cyrus is on the market, and anyone who doubts it can see for themselves in this hard-hitting interview from MSNBC. The "Hannah Montana" star is officially "lookin'." Let the jostling begin.
Of course, if you're really hoping to be noticed by the 15-year-old phenom, you might put your money where you mouth is and make a bid. The Cyrus' foundation, which benefits underprivileged kids, is auctioning off a date with the Disney darling. All you have to do is beat the current highest bid of $2,000. No sweat.
All of this could account for why "miley cyrus boyfriend" has been spiking in Search. Or the reason could be simply that Nick Jonas, who once had the honor of dating Miss Cyrus, has been spotted out and about with a new young starlet, Selena Gomez. Nonetheless, both "miley cyrus nick jonas" and "miley cyrus boyfriend nick jonas" have picked up traction in Search over the past seven days. Some searchers, at least, have remained faithful.
Single or not, the teen princess's romantic life has dominated Buzz and will surely continue to do so. While fans eagerly seek out other celebs' love lives, it's all-Miley, all-the-time at the top of the week's most popular "boyfriend" queries. Keep on lookin', Miley...
