Politics dominated the Buzz this weekend, as President Obama laughed it up with friends and foes alike, and Dick Cheney took a few potshots of his own. And Miss California is still the queen of controversy. Just some of the more popular stories on Yahoo! Buzz...
Barack Rickles
Well, we already knew President Obama can shoot hoops, and now we know he can throw down
when it comes to skewering the Washington establishment. At the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, the president went all Don Rickles on anyone who'd ever turned up on "Meet the Press." Joe Biden, Rahm Emanuel, and Dick Cheney (writing his memoir "How to Shoot Friends and Interrogate People") were just some of Obama's punchline victims. And while George W. Bush had to listen to Stephen Colbert mock him mercilessly at the same event in 2006, comedienne Wanda Sykes limited her criticism of Obama to making fun of his nipples. Sykes saved her toughest banter for Rush Limbaugh, whom she compared to Osama bin Laden and hit hard on his problems with OxyContin. "Too much?" she asked the audience, after. "But you're laughing inside."
Dick Cheney: Rush is right
Meanwhile, in a TV studio just a few miles away geographically but in an alternate universe politically, Dick Cheney decided to throw a little roast of his own. The former vice president appeared on "Face the Nation," where he was asked about the recent back-and-forth between Rush Limbaugh and Colin Powell. "If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh," Cheney said. "My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican." Rim shot! Powell served as secretary of state in the Bush administration, but endorsed Barack Obama for president.
Miss California
Yes, what better places to joust over ideology than political dinners, TV news shows, and — beauty pageants. You all know the story of Carrie Prejean, Miss California. Gave a thumbs-down at the Miss USA pageant to same-sex marriage. Lambasted by proponents, lauded by conservatives for her traditional views, but not so much for the partially nude photos that surfaced. Now her crown is in jeopardy, whether for the pics, the anti-gay-marriage stance, or just the publicity, who knows. But rest easy; Donald Trump is on the case. The Donald, co-owner of the Miss Universe organization, will reportedly decide whether Prejean will be stripped of her title by the time of his press conference on Tuesday.
