Skinny Jeans Workout Wows the Web

By Claudine Zap
Tue, August 11, 2009, 10:31 am PDT

Two of the scariest words in the English language: Skinny jeans. The mere thought of exposing a normal bod's bumps and curves to the super-tight style is enough to strike fear among the bravest of fashion-forward souls.

Good news on that front: A new workout claims it can get your fat derriere into the tightest of denim. It's the Skinny Jeans Workout, aimed at the abs, butt and thighs — the arch-enemy of suck-in-your-gut jeans. Converts of the new exercise craze claim they've dropped a denim size or two. Ultimate goal: to zip up the painted-on pants.

Denim denizens have gone wild for the exercise trend, causing "skinny jeans workout" to strut up the search box. And in case you are hoping this whole skinny-jeans thing will just go away, no such luck. Lookups on "skinny jeans" still tops denim searches over the last 30 days.

Still, if you want to trade in your mom jeans for skinnies, this booty boot camp is no easy fix. According to CNN, the class is a real workout, with a mix of "ballet, butt-burning stretches, and light weightlifting." Stick to the regimen, the class promises, and even you can be skinny-jean worthy.

Maybe fear is the greatest motivator.

Obama on Mom Jeans: "They're Comfortable"

By Mike Krumboltz
Tue, July 21, 2009, 9:46 am PDT

Last week, when President Obama threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the All-Star Game in St. Louis, he was probably more concerned with getting the ball over the plate than with his choice of attire. Call it a rookie mistake. The president's baggy pants were mocked as being... brace yourselves... "mom jeans." Now, the leader of the free world has responded to his fashion critics.

In an interview on NBC's "Today Show" that mostly covered serious topics, President Obama acknowledged that he "looked a little frumpy" in his baggy jeans. In his defense, Mr. Obama said that he hates to shop and that "those jeans are comfortable." The President went on to say: "For people who want a president to look great in tight jeans, I'm sorry." No apology necessary, Mr. President. The thought of our Commander-In-Chief wearing skinny jeans is a terrifying prospect.

The interview, which in our unofficial estimation marks the first time a sitting U.S. president apologized for not wearing tighter denim, sparked renewed interest in the infamous jeans. Searches surged on "obama's mom jeans" and "obama wears mom jeans." We even noticed a few queries on "what kind of jeans does obama wear?". Perhaps some brave souls are looking to copy the President's devil-may-care look. If it'll help stop the skinny-jeans menace, we're all for it.

Searching for the Perfect Jeans

By Mike Krumboltz
Tue, October 14, 2008, 2:19 pm PDT

Trends come and go. Jeans are always in fashion. But not all denim fits the same (especially around the ol' keister). Folks often have trouble finding the perfect pair of jeans to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. Redbook magazine has come up with a comprehensive list of the best jeans for a variety of butt shapes, from bubble to non-existent.

Some advice from the denim experts...
Flat butt? Look for jeans with lycra or spandex for "lift." Steer clear of stiff jeans.
No  butt? If you're looking to create the illusion of a fanny, you'll need jeans with "eye catching details" on the back pockets.
Wide butt? According to Redbook, avoid wearing wide-leg jeans. They make a wide fanny look that much wider.

For the full scoop on which jeans to buy based on the size of your rump, check out the full article. In the meanwhile, take a look at the top searched-for brands over the past seven days. We can't guarantee they'll fit you in all the right places, but they are popular with Yahoo! searchers. That's as good an endorsement as any.
