Justin Timberlake: Superstar to Become Superhero?
We always knew Justin Timberlake was a triple threat: The star can sing, he can dance, and he can even act (think "SNL" digital shorts). So maybe it's not a surprise that the heartthrob who is "bringing sexy back" is rumored to be in the running for the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming "Green Lantern" flick.
What the heck is a "Green Lantern"? The superhero comes from DC Comics. His backstory is this: Hal Jordan, a hotshot Air Force pilot, gets a super-powered ring along with the call to join an intergalactic crime-fighting force of Green Lanterns. The ring turns the guy green, and allows him to fly minus a plane and fight the bad guys. Its fatal flaw is that it's powerless against the color yellow—Green Lantern Kryptonite. Sounds good, right? Now picture JT as your Hal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake has some serious rivals: Ryan Reynolds ("The Proposal") and Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover"). Both have big summer hits and can really act. JT better be prepared to do more than sing for his ring.

A Creative and Blasphemous Take on the Emmys
The name Creative Arts Emmys seems redundant. Isn't TV inherently creative? We get the point—the Creative Arts is the feel-good moniker for honoring those mostly behind the scenes. Aside from token news coverage, the evening of accolades doesn't get much attention, and no primetime love beyond the E! cable channel. Except when godlessness and genitalia become involved.
The somnolent buzz for "creative arts emmys" woke up thanks to the blasphemous acceptance speech of Kathy Griffin. On stage, the ribald redhead disavowed any connection between her victory for "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List" and certain religious figures, and then declared her newly-won Emmy a false idol.
Searchers roared with queries on "kathy griffin emmy speech" and "kathy griffin jesus." The incident also stirred memories of other estrangements, as people took a new look into the circumstances of "kathy griffin divorce." The Catholic League has condemned the speech, which will be partially censored during the E! broadcast. So far however, the redhead has escaped any smoting.
There's also been renewed interest in Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg's naughty tune about a male body part in a box. The boys seem willing and able to perform the winning ditty this Sunday, but for now it's all talk. The awards ceremony may want to consider carefully, given low ratings last year. If Three 6 Mafia can pimp the Oscars ceremony, the Emmys shouldn't look a gift horse in the, er, mouth.

Justin Shocks the Buzz
Justin Timberlake's second solo album, "Future Sex/Love Sounds," is due out next month. This means that we're treated to the pop star's recent musings on fellow celebs (he respects Kate Moss), his treatment in the press (he got off easy for nipple-gate), and his manager-mom's thoughts on his ex (she misses Britney).
But unexpectedly, we've also been exposed to the former chart-topper's slurs about America's newest idol, Taylor Hicks. Justin, it turns out, thinks Taylor "can't carry a tune." The shock of this statement actually accomplished what once seemed impossible: It momentarily bumped searches on "justin timberlake taylor hicks" above searches on "justin timberlake cameron diaz" and "britney spears justin timberlake." Oh Justin, say it ain't so!
Now, as the boy wonder continues his rampage through the press, searches on his name hover in our top 200. The buzz on his new single, "Sexy Back," popped over the weekend, with the majority of searches coming from the under-17 set. But it remains to be seen whether the Buzz will truly welcome Justin back into the fold. Will he once again grace our top 5 music searches? Someday, Buzz will reveal all. For now, we can only wait to see if Justin is truly sexy or really back.

Sync-ing up With Search
It's a big week for former boy banders in Search. The rise of two such 'N Sync alumni took Search by storm, but what spurred the Buzz to return to the glory days of bubblegum pop?
Buzz on 'N Sync's breakout star Justin Timberlake has been hot since he ventured into the wilds of a solo career. High-profile relationships and hit records will do that for a guy. Searches on JT are up 141% this week, and he's back in our music top five. Why? Look no further than queries on "justin timberlake new song" and "justin timberlake new video." He's got a new tune appropriately titled "Sexy Back," and buzz on the song is blowin' up. It's currently the top song in Search, up another 71% yesterday—with related searches on "sexy back lyrics" and "sexy back video" also sizzling.
And in a story that's been percolating in Buzz for a couple of weeks, 'N Sync's lovable Lance Bass came out of the closet. His admission didn't shock fans, but his courage in coming out spurred a Search flurry. Queries on Bass leapt an astonishing 21,000%, and searches on "lance bass gay," "nsync lance," and "nsync lyrics" all soared.
The dynamic duo even served to lift searches on the three laggards from 'N Sync. Buzz on JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick awoke from years of hibernation. What will rock the pop world next? Stay tuned to the Buzz...
