Youth Tube

Disney owns childhood. At least, the empire of juvenility rules in what kids watch. The latest to join its Disney Channel clan is “Wizards of Waverly Place.” While the comedy of three wizards-in-training carries Potteresque overtones, the Magic Kingdom knows that the love for magic runs eternal in children’s imaginations.

The show, which debuted mid-October, has conjured up a 752% surge in searches. Still, "Wizards" has a ways to go before  it reaches the popularity enjoyed by other kids’ programs. Big sister “Hannah Montana” currently commands a tenfold lead over “Wizards.” If the apprentices plot an ascendance, they'll have to make a lot of other kids' shows disappear.

Cast your eye upon the 20 most searched kids' shows of the past 30 days; for a detailed lowdown on the top 10, check the Buzz show.

Who Would Zac Pick?

By Erik Gunther

Two girls. One tough choice. The battle between blonde and brunette. No, we're not talking about Archie being forced to choose between Betty and Veronica. Rather, it's the updated version of Archie's legendary Riverdale—East High of "High School Musical" fame.

The two leading ladies of "HSM" continue to face off for the oh-so-dreamy Troy Bolton in the hotly anticipated sequel. Zac Efron's Troy faces the modern day Archie dilemma: Does he pick dark-haired beauty Vanessa Anne Hudgens (Gabriella) or take a chance with blonde hottie Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay)?

Buzz says Troy should follow his heart and go with Gabriella. We graphed searches on the two leading ladies over the past 90 days and found Hudgens out in front...

Perhaps brunettes have more fun. More likely, it's due to the notoriety of Hudgens' off-screen romance with teen idol Efron. Related queries on "vanessa anne hudgens pictures," "vanessa anne hudgens and zac efron," and "zac efron kissing vanessa hudgens" are all on the rise as the sequel's premiere nears.

That's not to say searchers are ignoring Tisdale. The ultra-cute blonde has legions of admirers looking up "ashley tisdale pics," "ashley tisdale lyrics," and even "ashley tisdale hot." Searchers are also fascinated with her portrayal of snotty Sharpay in the unstoppable "HSM" franchise. Queries on "sharpay evans," "sharpay costume," and "sharpay pictures" are warming up as the sunny sequel wends its way to a ravenous tween audience.

10 Reasons Why Miley Cyrus Is the Next Big Thing

By Mike Krumboltz
Thu, August 02, 2007, 9:00 pm PDT

1. Miley Cyrus is huge with kids. Over 70% of her searches come from fans 17 and under.

2. Her show, "Hannah Montana," is among our top 200 overall searches.

3. Miley's new double album is currently kicking butt all over the charts.

4. Her Dad is one of the great mulleted-Americans of all time — Billy Ray Cyrus.

5. Related searches point to intense fan devotion — "miley cyrus pictures," "miley cyrus biography," and "miley cyrus lyrics."

6. The buzz on "hannah montana concert" and "hannah montana tickets" is deafening. Clearly, tweens wanna see her live.

7. Some related searches boarder on obession — "hannah montana wigs" and "hannah montana doll maker" are two solid examples. Guys, it's just a TV show.

8. Or maybe not. A Hannah Montana movie may be in the works. If so, it'll mean Miley has careers in music, television, and film. Not bad for a 14-year-old.

9. With Hilary Duff growing up and Britney Spears melting down, young girls are in the market for a new idol. Better Miley than a Bratz doll.

10. She's never been arrested. Eat your heart out, Lindsay.
