Buzz Multiplex: By the Playbook
Tinseltown turns on the star power this week, as celebs return to slapstick routines of Hollywood yesteryear. Not all is muddy pratfalls and comic yuks, as one horror movie turns sunny Cancun into a bloodbath. Well, there's always Cabo.
1. " Leatherheads" (PG-13). Could this be the most perfect date movie of the year so far? Gridiron slapstick and retro-flapper fashion pad out the romance, and the guys are lapping it up: Sixty percent of the comedy's searches come from males. Beloved director and star George Clooney commands more lookups than the film title or his co-stars John Krasinski and Renee Zellwegger combined, but that's not all. People are also invoking a "cary grant george clooney" comparison in Search.
2. "The Ruins" (R). The much ballyhooed Scott Smith horror bestseller didn't take long to get cinematic. The film's searches may be up 123% this week, but the film's "R" rating aces out about 20% of interested fans. Doomed stars Laura Ramsey and Jena Malone have also been pulling in some buzz. So far, the storyline of a Mexican vacation gone bloody hasn't dampened "cancun" searches, but give it a weekend.
3. "Nim's Island" (PG). The young fantasy could feature the most adorable pair in recent movie history. No, not Gerard Butler and Jodie Foster—Abigail Breslin and a Mensa-eligible pelican. The A-list names in this mother-daughter bonding movie are commanding big searches. Foster, in her first comedy in years, boasts the biggest online profile of all actors opening in a movie this week.

Sarah Larson: Who's That Lady?
Searches on Sarah Larson leapt 185% after she accompanied George Clooney to the premiere of his new flick, "Michael Clayton." Interest in Larson also surged after it was revealed she hurt her foot in the hunky actor's much-publicized motorcycle accident. The buzz around the mystery women prompted us to break down the three types of searchers looking for Sarah...
—Some want to know: Who is she? Searchers got right to the point, looking up "who is sarah larson," "sarah larson bio," or "sarah larson wikipedia." We looked at Wikipedia for more information on Clooney's lady love, but she hasn't risen to the level of meriting her own entry. Scandalous!
—Some want to know: Was she on "Fear Factor"? Searches on "sarah larson fear factor" and "sarah larson fear factor pictures" indicate that she was a contestant on the gross-out game show. The answer is...yes. We found this page on NBC, wherein the lovely Ms. Larson explains how difficult it was to ingest a scorpion martini. A People magazine article confirms she was a winner on "Factor" and that she also spent time as a cocktail waitress at the Palms Las Vegas. Sounds like quite a catch!
—Some want to know: Can we see more? Searches on "sarah larson pics" and "sarah larson photos" have taken off as intrepid searchers hunt down images of the fetching brunette. You can't help but love this lady!

Thanks, but No Thanks
Generally speaking, politicians aren't the most likable lot. So it's not surprising that whenever a celeb is rumored to be running for office, searches on the would-be candidate go crazy.
Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney know this all too well. Each has made their lack of interest in public office clear, but those denials can't stop the Buzz. Searches on Oprah jumped 106% and queries on the (non-affiliated) web site "Oprah for President" experienced a similar surge. All this following Oprah's comments that she's flattered by the notion, but not interested. At all.
Though his overall searches were nowhere near Oprah's, A-list actor George Clooney experienced a 154% jump after "shrugging off" suggestions he might one day run for office. Of course, he says that now, but what if he were to one day change his mind? Well, for one, Dennis Hastert would no longer be the hottest guy in Washington. Other than that, it'd probably be business as usual.

The Hotness of King George
If Sunday night's coverage of the Academy Awards was any indication, Hollywood has a new king. Never mind that this triple threat (actor, director, producer) only won one Oscar, George Clooney was the life of the party. Everyone wanted to chat with him, and even his new tuxedo was a topic of conversation.
George's star is also buzzing fiercely. In the week leading up to the Oscars, he rocketed up the Buzz charts to shine in our top 600 searches. On award day alone, 90% more people were searching on him than the day before. Don't assume it's all ladies checking up on ol' George either. A whopping 40% of searches for the Hollywood hunk came from the gentlemen. And it looks like Clooney is hottest with his age bracket (35- to 44-year-olds), but the next bracket up (45- to 54-year-olds) is trailing closely behind. Good thing too, because George turns 45 this May. Maybe he's doing some advanced marketing?
Related searches for King George run from the serious ("george clooney movies," "george clooney biography," and "george clooney pictures") to the fun ("george clooney lake como," "george clooney shirtless," and "george clooney dating"). Clooney-watchers in Cincinnati, New York City, and Buffalo are the most fanatical about staying on top of their man's every move, while those in La-La Land lag a few paces behind - not unlike those pesky photogs who trail King George everywhere, much to his dismay.
