Leggo My Retro

Imagine what it was like to be a hipster before the Internet. Man, it must have been tough. Cool dudes and dudettes had to travel from thrift store to thrift store in covered wagons. And, when they arrived, there was no guarantee that the store would have any ironic t-shirts or faux fur jackets in stock. Truly, those were trying times.

Now, of course, everything has changed. The Web has made it far easier to join the ranks of the tragically hip. Want proof? Every week we see scores of searches on all things retro. Retro clothes? Check. Retro glasses? Yep. Retro kitchen appliances? Believe it or not, yes.

But those aren't the most popular retro-related lookups. That title belongs to a certain kind of sneaker—"retro air jordans." The old-school kicks endorsed by Michael Jordan are absolutely huge in Search. People drive the lane for specific models, colors, and even sizes.

Below, we take a step back and list the top 20 retro searches from the past week. Don a perfectly distressed leather jacket and authentic Jordache jeans and take a look.

      Top Sneaks of Search

      By Molly McCall

Recently we've spotted "prada sneakers," "gucci sneakers," and "custom sneakers" strolling around Search, trying to act natural. Flashy, upscale sneaks may grab some buzz, but online shoppers remain loyal to the classic brands. And the king of them all is, of course, Nike.

Permanently planted in our top 300 movers, the swoosh casts as long a shadow across the Search box as it does across the shoe aisle and athletic field. The behemoth of rubber-soled footwear seems untouchable, producing styles equally sought by men and women and popular with every age group. Its related searches even reveal its reach: "nike air force ones," "nike sox," "nike dunks," and "nike air jordans" all rode high in Buzz this week.

Not that others aren't giving the monster-make a run for its thickly spread advertising funds. Nike still wins the contest, but who knows what will happen down the road. Some day, maybe, online shoppers will refuse to "just do it." In the meantime, here are the top ranked sneaker brands in Search...

      1. Nike
      2. Puma
      3. Vans
      4. Converse
      5. New Balance
      1. Reebok
      2. Adidas
      3. Skechers
      4. Asics
      5. Keds
