This year, kids showed their environmental consciousness as they searched on topics of global proportions, including Earth Day, rainforest, and endangered animals. In fact, global warming was among 2007's top 10 searches on Yahoo! Kids.

As the importance of literacy in science continues to grow, there seems to be hope on the science education front after all. Although math topped the list of the most-searched school subject, science was also popular, with related searches on dinosaurs and the solar system remained high on the list among both boys and girls.
Social studies and history-related searches rose to the top around school holidays. Abraham Lincoln and Christopher Columbus proved popular, but first president George Washington was the most-searched historical figure. Among living role models, first female astronaut Sally Ride continued to draw searches from the elementary-school set.
Speaking of holidays, Halloween in the past few years has been approaching Christmas-level popularity, as children continue to celebrate All Hallows' Eve into young adulthood. After all, what other holiday gives license to dress up as a favorite character and go door to door asking for free candy?
When it comes to animals, dogs are man's best friend. It turns out they're also kid's best friend, followed by dolphins and sharks. In fact, sea creatures dominated overall animal searches on Yahoo! Kids. Penguins remained particularly buoyant, thanks to movies like last year's "Happy Feet."
In the world of entertainment, Disney sensation Hannah Montana (aka Miley Cyrus) emerged as 2007's pop culture phenomenon. Spikes started soon after the TV actress and singer announced her summer concert tour, which quickly became Yahoo! Search's most sought-after show of the season. Hannah Montana buzz shows little signs of dying down, with her concert tickets commanding serious premiums and a new movie project in the works. Not soon to be forgotten, her older Disney Channel brethren High School Musical and High School Musical 2 continued to show strength in 2007.
And what was the year's top search overall on Yahoo! Kids? Pledging their undying love for playtime, kids 7–12 searched for games more than anything else in 2007. Given the wealth of games available to kids online and the perpetual need to take a homework break, it's doubtful this search term will be giving up its number one spot anytime soon.
